Migrating to a New Server with Abacus v. 19 - (2010)
  1. Make a back up. In Abacus Law go to File / Utilities / Backup. Set the destination to a flash drive or different computer location.  (Abacus won’t back up to a CD.) Safeguard the backup in the event you must restore the system.
  2. In Abacus on the old server, go to File / Register / Transfer to release the license.
  3. Go to Administrative Tools / Services and stop the Abacus Update Service.
  4. If your firm purchased the Advantage Database Server (Fortress), uninstall it from the old server.
  5. Copy the entire Abacus folder from the old server to the new server and take the old server offline.
  6. Make sure User Account Control is disabled and you are logged in as the administrator on the new server. Also disable any antivirus of firewalls that may impede the installation of the program.
  7. Complete this step only if your firm has purchased the Advantage Database Server (Fortress).  If so, install the Advantage Database Server (ADS) on the new server.  (If you do not have your CD available contact the AbacusCustomer Care Center at 800.488.3334 to get the download link for the correct version.)

    Note: you cannot have two instances of ADS running on the same network so make sure the old server is either turned off or disconnected from the network.
  8. Run the installation into the Abacus folder on the new server.
  9. Share the Abacus folder on the new server with fullpermissions.
  10. Map the workstations to the new server. The mapped drive and path to the Abacus folder should be the same as the old server. If so the program is ready to run, continue if you decide to change mapped drive letter.
  11. If the drive letter or pathwas changed, you will need to map a new network drive (to server name and not UNC path or IP address) to that letter and run station.exe through that new mapped drive and v19 / Programs.
  12. If your installation requires the Advantage Database Server (Fortress), find the ads.ini file located in v19 / Programs and update the new server name and new server IP address if necessary.
[Enter Server Name here in the brackets]
lan_ip= input server IP address here
lan_port=6262
  1. Set the following firewall port exceptions if running the default Windows firewall or any third party firewalls:
    1. 6262 UDP (Advantage Database Server)
    2. 8006 TCP (Abacus Update Service)
